Know Your Pipe Tobacco
Connoisseurs of pipe tobacco are very selective when it comes to the type of tobacco they smoke. Many different flavors and blends of tobacco are available, anything from fruit-flavored tobacco to tobacco that has a nutty taste. Pipe tobaccos are slightly harsher than cigarette tobaccos, and must be kept moist, which is why they are stored in an airtight container called a humidor. Pipe tobacco can be cut into flakes or tightly pressed into small chunks which are then cut into smaller pieces and stuffed into a pipe tobacco to be smoked. Probably the most famous brand of pipe tobacco is Captain Black pipe tobacco, a mild, golden Cavendish tobacco that is made in the United States.
Virginia Tobacco
Virginia is home to about 60% of tobacco grown in the U.S. It is called “Virginia” tobacco because it has a subtle, fruity flavor unique to Virginia tobacco crops that has been described as both tasty and sweet. This type of tobacco is found in those brands advertising tobacco that is aromatic and clean-smoking. Virginia’s economy has been primarily based on tobacco for the past three hundred years and continues to be so today. While the technique of growing tobacco is labor-intensive, it is extremely profitable, making more money per acre than soybeans or corn. Smokers of both cigarette and pipe tobacco spend over billion dollars worldwide on tobacco products and Virginia is the major breadwinner for tobacco profits in the U.S.
